Melinda Huffman will be joining the Riverbend Community this fall as our new Innovation Teacher. Melinda has over fifteen years of experience teaching passionately in the field of science. She has worked in Tennessee, New Jersey and most recently Rhode Island, at the Gordan School. During her time there she developed specific curriculum to fulfill department and administrative goals of teaching a general science course, which emphasized the design and engineering process.
She is a trained Montessori Middle School teacher and has developed many after school science programs including both STEM and camps. Additionally she has been a part of the Maker Movement for years and has successfully brought Making and Design Thinking into many classrooms.
While exercising her passion she has traveled to Africa to teach technology and science lessons and has developed a camp for underserved children in Puerto Rico entitled “Science by the Sea.” She also frequently attends and presents at science and engineering conferences in the states.
Above all, the social emotional development of children is paramount to her and she continually attempts to develop lessons that build confidence and skills as well as deliver content. We look forward to her arrival this fall!
