Prior to beginning at Riverbend, Shaplaie was the Program Director for a youth advocacy agency working specifically with cisgender boys, transgender, and nonbinary youth who were at high risk and or victims of CSEC. In her tenure with the agency, she assisted in writing the Law Enforcement Guidelines for the Boston Police Department, championed for inclusive practices and SOGIE data collection for the Department of Children and Families, as well trained the District Attorney’s office, DCF, and many other state agencies. Shaplaie assisted in legislative work for LGBTQIA and BIPOC youth and young adults in Massachusetts and worked to service equity and inclusion for the Boston Public Schools, and the Dorchester District Courts.
Shaplaie continues her work with Boston GLAD, LGBTQ Youth Coalition, Massachusetts on LGBTQ Youth Commission, Human Rights Commission of Boston, among many others agencies; training executive leadership, middle management, and front line workers as well as inclusive HR policy practice work as part of her DEI consulting firm, Beyond DEI, LLC.
Shaplaie has a wealth of experience working with children and families through her 10 years in child welfare serving both The State of Missouri and The State of Georgia in the Department of Families and Children Services; domestic and gender based violence, as well as housing insecurities in Rhode Island, Georgia, and Missouri, which provided a strong base with which to succeed at Riverbend.
