Tween- and teen-hood can be a trying time for children and their caregivers. Sometimes, even just remembering one’s own adolescence can stir up feelings of fear and anxiety when parenting tweens and teens. During this major brain growth spurt (second only to ages 0-3), a child’s life is characterized by contradictions, intense emotions, and mystery. But tweens and teens also have superpowers of empathy, vulnerability, and strong convictions for justice and change.
Join parenting expert and former middle school teacher Deborah Farmer Kris for a short presentation that will help demystify this amazing and sometimes challenging time of child development. Then, Deborah will facilitate a conversation for parents to raise questions and identify challenges they may be encountering with their tween or teen. As a group, you’ll link the “why” to the behavior you’re noticing and brainstorm strategies to respond constructively and compassionately to your child.
