Community Learning Series: Supporting your Child’s Social & Emotional Development with Kristin Black

In this session we will walk through strategies that will support and promote children’s social and emotional growth and well being. We will discuss what it means to be socially and emotionally healthy how that impacts your child at home and school.

Kristin Black has taught in public and private education in Massachusetts for 12 years, spending the last five with Riverbend as the Children’s House Learning Specialist. Kristin assists teachers in identifying students in need of additional support and assists families connect with those services such as speech and occupational therapy. She is part of our Social Emotional Learning team and also teaches our Fundations reading curriculum to kindergarten and first grade students, laying the ground work for life-long literacy. 

Kristin holds a Masters Degree from California State in Special Education and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in reading from Lesley University. Additionally, she is trained in Open CircleResponsive Classroom and Wilson Reading.   

As our Children’s House Learning Specialist, Kristin is regularly in classrooms, supporting staff, and meeting with parents and families. She provides behavioral, academic, and social-emotional support to our children.  Kristin has done extensive work in  curriculum and product development and has developed a SEL curriculum that is being used in Toddler and Primary classrooms.
