In this session we will learn about how we interpret our child’s behavior. Their behavior may not always be the message they are trying to send us. We will share strategies on how we can handle their big emotions and how we can support what they really want to say.

Kristin Black has taught in public and private education in Massachusetts for 12 years, spending the last five with Riverbend as the Children’s House Learning Specialist. Kristin assists teachers in identifying students in need of additional support and assists families connect with those services such as speech and occupational therapy. She is part of our Social Emotional Learning team and also teaches our Fundations reading curriculum to kindergarten and first grade students, laying the ground work for life-long literacy.
Kristin holds a Masters Degree from California State in Special Education and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in reading from Lesley University. Additionally, she is trained in Open Circle, Responsive Classroom and Wilson Reading.
As our Children’s House Learning Specialist, Kristin is regularly in classrooms, supporting staff, and meeting with parents and families. She provides behavioral, academic, and social-emotional support to our children. Kristin has done extensive work in curriculum and product development and has developed a SEL curriculum that is being used in Toddler and Primary classrooms.
