In addition to our normal science curriculum, the Middle School students have also explored biomimicry this year. Our focus has been on design and biology and the idea that for billions of years, our Earth has been home to millions of organisms that have adapted to flourish within the limits of our planet. In addition to other biomimicry related activities, Middle School students have identified a home, school or global challenge and have looked to nature to inspire a sustainable solution.
Last Wednesday, a team of scientists from the Wyss Institute at Harvard came to Riverbend’s campus for an inspiring and interactive presentation on how biomimetic research can lead to real-world change. Students heard how nature’s adaptations can lead to an idea that is researched extensively and licensed to impact the world. A special thanks to Dr. Neil Muni for facilitating this awesome learning experience for our Middle School students.
On May 18th, Middle School students look forward to sharing their biomimicry-inspired work with the Riverbend community in an interactive Biomimicry Showcase on Riverbend’s campus. Stay tuned for more information.
