Katie joined Riverbend in 2022 as the Director of Elementary and Middle School, after having spent over 25 years in education. She has held teaching, coaching, and leadership roles in independent and public schools, spanning kindergarten through eighth grade. Katie has a deep commitment to inspiring life long learners who take care of one another and the world around them. Her work with faculty starts from a foundation of profound appreciation for the role teachers play in the lives of children, while her work with families starts from a similar foundation of appreciation for the importance of the role of families in the life of a school.
Katie’s work with Restorative Justice has taught her the importance of taking time to weave a strong tapestry of connection within a community, for it is only when a community is strong that its members are willing to work hard to repair fissures and thus restore harmony. Katie’s colleagues see her as a deep thinker who asks really thoughtful questions. Her love of learning extends beyond any campus or building. Outside of Riverbend, Katie is learning how to grow vegetables; the tomatoes seem to get better each year, but she has yet to harvest a great tasting carrot!
