Steve joined Riverbend as Director of Advancement in 2025. Steve grew up north of Boston in a family of educators. After receiving his B.A. in English from Middlebury College, he went on to attend the college’s Bread Loaf School of English for his M.A., later working at both the school and at the renowned Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. After many years as an English teacher, academic dean and college counselor, Steve was awarded a Klingenstein Fellowship to attend Columbia University’s Teachers College, where he earned his Ed.M. in Educational Administration. He became the Upper School Principal at Rutgers Preparatory School before moving into school leadership, serving as Head of School at Falmouth Academy on Cape Cod and Jackson Walnut Park School in Newton. In this role Steve collaborated closely with his advancement offices on areas ranging from annual giving to major events, and from capital campaigns to strategic planning.

Steve has presented at the NAIS national convention and served on numerous school accreditation committees. He brings to Riverbend his love of working with students, teachers, and parents in support of a community that educates hearts as well as minds. He’s mindful of the fast-changing landscape of education and the world, and the vital role that fundraising plays in providing schools with the necessary resources to adapt to change and to be at the forefront of innovation.

In his free time you’ll often find Steve in northern New England, skiing in the winter and hiking and canoeing the rest of the year. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading a good book, attending a concert or play, and visiting Boston’s world-class art museums. He has a loyal devotion to Boston’s sports teams and an inexplicable affinity for moose!
