Smith Utubor

Smith Utubor is a controller at Energetiq Technology Inc. where he has worked for the last seven years. He oversees the entire Finance, Accounting and Human Resource function. Energetiq is a developer and manufacturer of advanced light sources that enable other manufacturers to develop and analyze nano-scale structures and products primarily in the semi-conductor industry. Smith has over 15 years of relevant experience in accounting and finance. Prior to Energetiq, Smith worked at KPMG LLP, a Big 4 CPA firm, for five years where he audited some of the largest companies in the world along with state & local and nonprofit entities. After KPMG, Smith worked at small to midsize companies where he always made immediate positive impact.

Above anything else, Smith always puts ethics first. Using his audit background from KPMG, he always ensures sound internal controls are in place. From there, he delivers high quality services to stakeholders. His specialty includes budgeting, full-cycle accounting (including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, payroll, etc), financial statement preparations including board reporting package, maintain knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and risk management.

Smith is also passionate about change and working with nonprofits. He has worked at FC Greater Boston Bolts as both a soccer coach and the Treasurer in his spare time. The Bolts is a nonprofit soccer club dedicated to providing players of all background from ages 5 through 23. They provide exceptional training and development so members may achieve their greatest potential as a player and use that talent as an avenue to higher education and life success.

Smith’s love for soccer, education, and for change is what led him to his own nonprofit, the Utubor Sports Foundation, which was active from 2012 to 2018. The Foundation provided schools supplies and soccer equipment to a local village in his native Nigeria. Smith knows the value of proper education and feels fortunate to be where he is and the Foundation was a way to give back and provide to an underprivilege community where sports could be used as a motivator to get kids to stay in school.

Smith’s compassion and giving back goes beyond soccer as he has always strive to help whenever possible. This includes volunteering at the Greater Boston Food Bank, FaceAfrica, Big Brothers and Sisters, volunteer coach for City of Framingham, reading to children at local schools, and numerous other community services.
